Working together to protect Ontario's endangered species...
Ontario's new Endangered Species Act, 2007, provides a promising framework for protecting and recovering endangered species. Its many strengths include the scientific listing of endangered species, mandatory habitat protection, mandatory recovery planning and funding for stewardship.
The real test of the legislation, however, will be in its implementation.
S.O.S. partners and supporters are calling upon the provincial government to live up to its promise to protect and recover Ontario’s endangered species. As the Act is being implemented, S.O.S. will be doing its utmost to ensure that all new regulations, policies and programs truly support the conservation principles and objectives enshrined in the legislation.
